Game 5: Tribe homer their way past the Sox

Cabrera, Choo, and LaPorta all get big flys and our bullpen holds on to win our 3rd straight game in this young season.

Give credit to the Red Sox for making Talbot work hard, but for as much trouble as he got in throughout the game, he was able to get out of the jams with relatively little damage.  Opposing picture Daisuke Matzuzaka didn’t fair much better as the Tribe was patient with him.
Things really fell apart for the Sox when Dennys Reyes came out and wasn’t able to get an out. He hit two batters, and walked a third… all while throwing only a single strike.  Needless to say, Terry Francona was quick to get out their and try to stop the bleeding with a pitching change.
It wouldn’t matter.
Tribe look to sweep tomorrow, early, at 12:05PM on STO and MLB Network.

A week away from the first Spring Training game

This entry isn’t going to be all that insightful.  I just felt compelled to share my excitement for the upcoming week.  The Grapefruit and Cactus leagues will kick off with full force and fans will get an early glimpse of their teams in some actual baseball game action.

I know, you can’t base all that much on what your teams accomplish in the upcoming regular season.  But, you have to follow it.  It’s the fan in all of us connecting with our teams again.  It’s been a long off-season for the 29 teams and their fan bases that did not win it all.  However those Phillies, while I’m sure they’re eager to defend their championship, have no doubt enjoyed this passed off-season al ot.  Who can blame them?  They earned it.

Also, for those who haven’t heard, MLB Network is airing a series called 30 Teams In 30 Days and will be covering a single club each night.  It is apparently an in depth look at a typical day during spring training for each team.  Definitely sounds interesting.  The series debuts Feb 20th, and starts with the Boston Red Sox if I’m not mistaken.

I need to make it to Arizona and check out the Indians new facility. From the pictures, it looks like it is a fantastic place to get a team ready for the upcoming season.

As always, Go Tribe.

’97 World Series: Tribe vs. Fish

world_series_1997.jpg

Since 1/1/09, when I turn on the TV, it’s pretty much been all MLB Network, all the time.  Just recently on their Classic World Series Film program, I caught a look back at the ’97 World Series featuring the Cleveland Indians and the still brand new franchise the, Florida Marlins.

I was just a kid the last time the Tribe played in a World Series, but I remember it well.  In my youth, I was pretty spoiled as a baseball fan.  The Cleveland Indians in the mid-nineties were feared by all across Major League Baseball.  In ’97, they wanted it more than ever having lost to the Atlanta Braves just 2 years before in the ’95 World Series in six games.

The thing I remember most about watching the ’97 World Series was Moises Alou.  He just couldn’t miss.  It felt like every time he walked up to the plate he was hitting a HR, or driving in another run.  He really made the Tribe work hard, and was a huge reason why the Florida Marlins were able to win the series.

It hurt, badly.  It was a back and forth battle, but one thing was certain:  After game 7, a new champion would be introduced to the world.  That team was the Florida Marlins.  The Tribe would make it back to the play offs a handful of times after ’97, but haven’t played in a World Series since.

Behind only the Chicago Cubs, the Cleveland Indians have the longest World Series crown drought, dating back 60 years to 1948.  What an incredible thing it would be to see the Cubbies and Tribe try to end their respective droughts head to head one day.
