Game 6: Carmona deals, Tribe sweep
It was a war between starting pitchers, as Fausto Carmona and Jon Lester went inning for inning daring each other to do better than the last. It was a thing of beauty watching them work. They weren’t perfect, by any means, but even when they got in trouble they both were able to Houdini their way out of it.
That’s when Manny Acta had to shake things up. In the 8th inning he called for a squeeze play that would fair successful and would put the Tribe on their way to a 1-0 victory over the struggling Red $ox.
Now, some people (especially $ox Nation) claimed that the final out was questionable at that Darnell McDonald was in fact safe as he panicked back to the bag after he over slid at a distance that looked to be at least 10 feet. Now, the call was close, for sure… but when you’re struggling the way Boston is, and you make such an awful mistake as that, the ump isn’t going to be ready to show mercy. It’s just the way the game works.
Tribe head way out west to take on Eric Wedge’s Seattle Mariners. Start time 10:05PM ET.
Game 5: Tribe homer their way past the Sox
Cabrera, Choo, and LaPorta all get big flys and our bullpen holds on to win our 3rd straight game in this young season.
Give credit to the Red Sox for making Talbot work hard, but for as much trouble as he got in throughout the game, he was able to get out of the jams with relatively little damage. Opposing picture Daisuke Matzuzaka didn’t fair much better as the Tribe was patient with him.
Things really fell apart for the Sox when Dennys Reyes came out and wasn’t able to get an out. He hit two batters, and walked a third… all while throwing only a single strike. Needless to say, Terry Francona was quick to get out their and try to stop the bleeding with a pitching change.
It wouldn’t matter.
Tribe look to sweep tomorrow, early, at 12:05PM on STO and MLB Network.
Game 4: Tomlin out duels Beckett
Man, it was all Josh Tomlin last night against a ferocious Red Sox lineup (that hasn’t been very ferocious so far). He went 7 innings, allowing only 1 ER on 3 hits. Hell of a line, if you ask me.
Beckett wasn’t BAD, but he wasn’t great either. The Tribe made him work hard through only 5 innings, knocking him out of the game having given up 3 ER, and allowing the Red Sox early season woes continue.
Tonight, the Indians will face Daisuke Matsuzaka, a pitcher who hasn’t been terribly strong the last couple seasons. Mitch Talbot will be on the bump for the Tribe.
