Game 9: Indians sweep the M’s
7 straight victories.
I remember watching that first game not so long ago, and despite the poor outing from Carmona, I still loved what I saw from the Tribe bats, making it at the very least respectable at the end there. I just knew that this team had the gusto to battle and not roll over and die.
So with that, after two losses to start the 2011 campaign, the Cleveland Indians have sole possession of the AL Central top spot with a record of 7-2. They’ve been playing some great baseball.
Today, they got the bats going early, scoring in each of the first 4 innings. Give credit to the Mariners though, making a late surge in the 7th inning when the bullpen had it’s first real predicament of the young 2011 season.
Side note: Love the long ball action the Tribe have been touting so far. Asdrubal Cabrera belted his 3rd of the year, and Hannahan hit his 2nd. Also, Michael Brantley extended his hit streak to 8 games.
Indians head south, but stay out west to take on the Angels tomorrow night at 10:05PM ET.
Game 6: Carmona deals, Tribe sweep
It was a war between starting pitchers, as Fausto Carmona and Jon Lester went inning for inning daring each other to do better than the last. It was a thing of beauty watching them work. They weren’t perfect, by any means, but even when they got in trouble they both were able to Houdini their way out of it.
That’s when Manny Acta had to shake things up. In the 8th inning he called for a squeeze play that would fair successful and would put the Tribe on their way to a 1-0 victory over the struggling Red $ox.
Now, some people (especially $ox Nation) claimed that the final out was questionable at that Darnell McDonald was in fact safe as he panicked back to the bag after he over slid at a distance that looked to be at least 10 feet. Now, the call was close, for sure… but when you’re struggling the way Boston is, and you make such an awful mistake as that, the ump isn’t going to be ready to show mercy. It’s just the way the game works.
Tribe head way out west to take on Eric Wedge’s Seattle Mariners. Start time 10:05PM ET.
